Dr. Lel’s primary teaching area is in corporate finance. He currently teaches Corporate Finance at the undergraduate level.
Prior to joining Virginia Tech, Dr. Lel was a research economist at the Federal Reserve Board in Washington DC in the International Finance division. He also taught finance at Indiana University in Bloomington.
Dr. Lel's research interests focus on corporate finance and international finance with a special emphasis on corporate governance. His research has been accepted for publication in the Journal of Finance, the Journal of Financial Economics, and the Journal of Banking and Finance, as well as presented at numerous university workshops and academic conferences such as Western Finance Association and Financial Research Association meetings.
Dr. Lel has served as a referee for various journal including the Journal of Finance, Review of Financial Studies, Journal of Corporate Finance, and Journal of Financial Intermediation, and as a discussant at various conferences such as the annual American Finance Association meetings. He is a member of the American Finance Association and Western Finance Association.
